😇 Bourbon with a Halo or a Hellish Finish?

In this Unscripted episode of Tortured Bourbon, we sit down with a glass of Angel’s Envy Triple Oak and ask the question no one else is brave (or tipsy) enough to ask:

“Does this angel actually earn her wings?”

No scripts, no notes, and definitely no PR blurbs. Just Heather and B, a camera, and one of the most anticipated Angel’s Envy releases in recent memory—plus a North Carolina ABC barrel pick of Angel’s Envy to keep things honest.

🥃 What Makes Angel’s Envy Triple Oak Special?

Released in September 2024, Angel’s Envy Triple Oak is the first new addition to the Signature Series in over a decade. But it’s not a port-finished repeat. Instead, this bottle dives headfirst into oak with a triple barrel finishing process that includes:

  • Hungarian Oak – spicy and structured

  • Chinkapin Oak – creamy, vanilla-forward

  • French Oak – rich and tannic

These three finishing barrels are each used to age a portion of the whiskey separately. Then, they’re married together and proofed down to 92 proof (46% ABV) to strike a balance between complexity and smoothness.

Master Distiller Owen Martin (formerly of Stranahan’s) called this “one of the most technical blends we’ve done.”

🎙️ The Unscripted Experience

We didn’t go into this one with a script. And that’s kind of the point.

This Tortured Bourbon Unscripted series is about tasting like real people—not sommeliers, not influencers. It’s about reacting honestly, sharing notes as we find them, and letting the pour speak for itself.

In this episode, you’ll see us wrestle with:

  • How does Triple Oak compare to the standard Angel’s Envy?

  • Is this oak-finished expression over the top—or perfectly balanced?

  • Can it justify the price tag and the hype?

👃 Tasting Notes (Spoiler-Free Version)

We always taste live, but if you want a teaser:

  • Nose: Apricot, honeysuckle, toasted oak

  • Palate: Red plum, caramel, custard, leather

  • Finish: Baking spice, molasses, black pepper heat

Heather thought it leaned elegant. B thought it might be headed to bourbon purgatory.

🔥 NC ABC Barrel Pick – Worth the Hype?

As a bonus pour, we cracked open a North Carolina ABC barrel pick of Angel’s Envy. While the Triple Oak takes you on a globe-spanning oak adventure, this pick felt more grounded—fruitier, brighter, and a bit more classic.
