Quick Shot Monday: Penelope Estate Collection Private Select Bourbon

Welcome back to Tortured Bourbon! Mondays can be rough, so we keep it short with our Quick Shot Monday series — five minutes or less of bourbon review to kick off your week.

Today’s pour is the Penelope Estate Collection Private Select Bourbon — a bottle that shows how much Penelope has grown as a brand while still offering incredible value.

Specs at a glance:

  • Mash Bill: 74% Corn, 20% Rye, 1% Wheat, 5% Malted Barley

  • Proof: 106.8 (53.4% ABV)

  • Age: 9 years

  • MSRP: ~$80

  • Company: Penelope

Nose

Rich caramel, warm cinnamon, and red fruits. It’s layered and inviting — cherry pie cooling next to a cinnamon roll.

Palate

Caramel, brown sugar, cherry, and baking spice. Sweet and spicy in balance, with plenty of depth at this proof point.

Finish

Vanilla honey bun, oak spice, and just a touch of smoke. Long, warming, and memorable.

Our Take

At $80, this is a nine-year bourbon that overdelivers. It’s approachable yet complex, making it a great buy for new bourbon drinkers and seasoned collectors alike. Penelope has proven they can play in the big leagues, and the Estate Collection Private Select is proof of that (pun intended).
