Peachy or Pitiful? Penelope Peach Old Fashioned Bourbon Review – Ready to Drink Cocktail Tasting

A Pour Decisions Wednesday That Got Weirdly Sweet

Welcome back to Tortured Bourbon! This week on Pour Decisions Wednesday, we cracked open something that sounded like a summertime daydream or a total sugar crash waiting to happen: the Penelope Peach Old Fashioned Bourbon.

This ready-to-drink bourbon cocktail comes from Penelope Bourbon — known for their four-grain bourbon sourced from the legendary MGP distillery in Indiana. They’ve taken that MGP bourbon base and blended it with peach flavor, sugar, and “natural flavors,” bottling it up at 60 proof.

We set out to answer one question: Is this old fashioned bourbon drink peachy perfection or a pitiful pour?

🥃 The Bourbon Breakdown

  • Brand: Penelope Bourbon

  • Type: Ready-to-drink Old Fashioned Bourbon Cocktail

  • Proof: 60 (30% ABV)

  • Mash Bill: Four-grain bourbon sourced from MGP

  • Flavors: Peach, sugar, natural flavors

If you’ve followed us for any amount of time, you know we love a good bourbon tasting and bourbon review. But we also love calling out questionable flavor combos — and this was the ultimate test.

🔍 The Tasting: Neat vs. On Ice

🍑 Neat

  • Heather: Said it was like drinking peach rings soaked in bourbon. Sweet, candy-like, almost too much.

  • B: Described it as “gas station candy meets cheap bourbon.” Not exactly a glowing start.

  • Katie: Shockingly loved it, calling it a “tipsy peach cobbler” and reaching for a second sip. (Who even is she anymore?)

🧊 On Ice

  • Chilling it changed the game. The ice cut the syrupy texture and turned it into more of a peach iced tea cocktail.

  • Heather said it was “definitely better cold,” B still grumbled about it being candy in disguise, and Katie was fully on board, declaring it a perfect poolside drink.

⭐ The Tortured Bourbon Rating Scale

We used our signature rating system to sum it up:

  • Piddlin

  • Bless Your Heart

  • That Dog Will Hunt

  • Hush Your Mouth

  • Cock of the Walk

🏆 Final Scores

  • Heather: Bless Your Heart — fun, flirty, not a real old fashioned bourbon drink, but a decent guilty pleasure.

  • B: Piddlin — too syrupy, not enough of that classic bourbon backbone.

  • Katie: That Dog Will Hunt — loved it as a sweet brunch or beach drink.

🏭 Shoutout to MGP Bourbon

Even in a peach cocktail, the quality of the MGP-sourced four-grain bourbon matters. It gives this otherwise dessert-forward drink a surprisingly solid base — and might be why Katie didn’t immediately spit it out.
