The Mythical Old Forester 1915 Blend – Can This Fan-Made Bourbon Beat the Originals?

The Mythical Old Forester 1915 Blend – Can This Fan-Made Bourbon Beat the Originals?

Premiere Date: May 30th, 2025

Author: Tortured Bourbon

After five weeks of Whiskey Row deep dives, we’ve reached the finale—and we’re going out with a blend, a legend, and a whole lot of banter.

In this episode of Old Forester Fridays, the Tortured Bourbon crew (Heather, B, and returning guest Aaron) explore the DIY bourbon blend that has haunted forums, YouTube comments, and whiskey Reddit for years: the Old Forester 1915 Blend.

Born from the fanbase—not the rickhouse—the 1915 is a 50/50 (or 60/40) mix of Old Forester 1910 and 1920, combining the soft, dessert-forward double-oaked profile of the 1910 with the high-proof spice and punch of the 1920. Supposedly, it creates the perfect bourbon. But does it actually taste better than the originals?

🥃 What’s in the Glass?

Old Forester 1910

  • Proof: 93

  • Finish: Double-barreled (heavily toasted second barrel)

  • Tasting Notes: Caramel, toasted marshmallow, crème brûlée, dark chocolate

  • Vibe: Dessert pour—silky, sweet, and smooth

Old Forester 1920

  • Proof: 115

  • Style: Prohibition-era boldness

  • Tasting Notes: Dark cherry, oak, spice, cocoa, brown sugar

  • Vibe: Full-bodied heater with a cult following

The 1915 Blend

  • Ratio: 50/50 base blend (plus a 60/40 test variant)

  • Proof: Approx. 104

  • Vibe: The mythical middle ground—soft + strong, dessert + spice

🧪 The DIY Bourbon Experiment

The crew tastes and ranks each pour live, comparing their favorite parts of 1910 and 1920 with the homemade blend. There’s plenty of commentary, Aaron gets a little nerdy, and we even whip out a fake label to complete the 1915 illusion. It’s bourbon mythology meets science fair—with Glencairns.

This is what happens when the internet starts doing Brown-Forman’s job for them.
