Quick Shot Mondays: Larceny Barrel Proof A125 Review | Wheated Bourbon in 5 Minutes

Larceny A125

Welcome to the first-ever edition of Quick Shot Mondays here at Tortured Bourbon!

If you’ve been following along with our show, you know Heather and B can get… well… a little long-winded. We’ve done deep dives, history lessons, mash bill breakdowns, and full-on rants about bourbon sourcing, allocation, and hype bottles. But sometimes, you just want a quick answer: Is this bourbon worth buying?

That’s where Quick Shot Mondays come in. Every Monday, we’ll taste a bottle and give you our unfiltered verdict in five minutes or less. It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s just enough bourbon talk to kick off your week without taking up your whole evening.

And we’re starting strong with one of the most anticipated releases of 2025 — Larceny Barrel Proof A125.

What Is Larceny Barrel Proof A125?

Larceny Barrel Proof comes from Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, the same team behind classics like Elijah Craig, Old Fitzgerald, and Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond.

  • Style: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

  • Mash Bill: 68% Corn, 20% Wheat, 12% Malted Barley

  • Proof: 125.4 (for this release)

  • Batch Code: A125 → A = First release of the year, 1 = January, 25 = 2025

  • MSRP: $65–75 (though demand often pushes it higher)

  • Special Features: Uncut, unfiltered, and always non-chill filtered

Each year, Heaven Hill releases three batches of Larceny Barrel Proof (A, B, and C), each carrying its own unique proof and flavor fingerprint. Collectors chase them, drinkers debate them, and YouTube channels like ours get to drink them and argue about which batch reigns supreme.

Quick Shot Tasting Notes

Here’s what we found in our lightning-fast tasting of Larceny A125:

  • Nose: Sweet caramel, toasted oak, vanilla cream, and cinnamon spice. A soft wheat sweetness balances the higher proof.

  • Palate: Brown sugar, buttered cornbread, and baking spice hit first, followed by cherry cola and a touch of dark chocolate. Bold, rich, and layered.

  • Finish: Long and warming, with lingering oak, cinnamon Red Hots, and honey-drizzled wheat bread.

The Verdict

Larceny A125 is another strong entry in the barrel proof wheated bourbon lineup. It’s bold, flavorful, and punches well above its price point. If you find it at retail, grab it without hesitation.

On the Tortured Bourbon Scale, it lands between “That Dog Will Hunt” and “Hush Your Mouth.” Translation: not just good, but really good.

Why Quick Shot Mondays?

Not every bourbon needs a 20-minute breakdown or a historical essay (though we love doing those, too). Sometimes, all you need is a fast take before you buy or open a bottle.

That’s what Quick Shot Mondays are for — a new way to start the week with bourbon in hand. Five minutes, one bottle, zero nonsense.
