Is Whiskey JYPSI the Next Big Bourbon? Tribute, Explorer & Legacy with Eric Church’s Outsiders Spirits

JYPSI Bourbon

Welcome back to Tortured Bourbon, where we explore the bourbons you love, the bottles you’re hunting, and the pours you’ve maybe never had. Today’s spotlight is on Whiskey JYPSI, the new brand making waves thanks to its ties to country music star Eric Church and his Outsiders Spirits team. The question we’re asking: Is Whiskey JYPSI the next big bourbon brand?

🥃 The JYPSI Lineup

For this episode, we’re tasting three standout bottles:

Whiskey JYPSI Tribute

  • Double-barreled straight bourbon, aged a minimum of 4 years in new charred oak plus an additional few months in a second new charred barrel.

  • Contract-distilled to JYPSI’s specs using heirloom grains, including Cherokee White Corn sourced from small family farms.

  • Proof: 86.

  • MSRP: $40–50.

  • Tasting expectations: vanilla, caramel, toasted corn muffin, light oak spice. Finish is short to medium with cocoa and toffee.

Whiskey JYPSI Explorer – Release #1

  • Blend of two six-year bourbons: a low-rye Kentucky bourbon and a high-rye Indiana bourbon.

  • Finished with both French Tronçais oak and Appalachian American oak staves.

  • Proof: 103.

  • MSRP: around $70.

  • Tasting expectations: baked apple, caramel pie crust, subtle leather and tobacco. Finish medium-long with spice and oak sweetness.

Whiskey JYPSI Legacy Batch 002 “The Alchemist”

  • A global blend: 60% 11-year Tennessee corn whiskey, 36% 18-year Canadian rye (finished in port, vermouth, or sherry vats), and 4% 10-year Indian single malt.

  • Proof: 114.3.

  • MSRP: $199.99.

  • Tasting expectations: brown sugar, peanut butter pie, maple candy, roasted nuts, fig jam, dark chocolate cherries. Long finish with orange oil, cinnamon, and baking chocolate.

🎤 Eric Church’s Bourbon Vision

Whiskey JYPSI isn’t just another sourced brand — it’s positioned as a blender and finisher. According to Eric Church and his partners, Raj Alva and whiskey maker Ari Sussman, the goal is to create innovative blends while staying transparent about sourcing.

  • They source whiskey from Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Canada, and even India.

  • They contract-distill recipes with heirloom grains to their specifications.

  • They lean on blending, double-barreling, and stave finishing to carve out a distinct identity.

This is a deliberate break from tradition, and it’s catching attention in the bourbon community.

👃 Katie’s Corner – Tasting Deep Dive

Katie walks us through what to expect:

  • Tribute: vanilla, light caramel, honey sweetness, oak spice.

  • Explorer: baked apple, cola, pastry crust, spice-driven finish.

  • Legacy “The Alchemist”: layers of brown sugar, fig jam, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, and a long, warming finish.

🔑 Why Whiskey JYPSI Matters

Bourbon fans often debate sourcing, transparency, and celebrity-backed brands. But Whiskey JYPSI has already sparked serious interest because:

  • It embraces heritage grains like Cherokee White Corn.

  • It isn’t afraid to blend international whiskeys into one pour.

  • It balances affordability (Tribute & Explorer) with premium experimentation (Legacy).

Whether you’re an Eric Church fan, a bourbon collector, or just someone looking for the next interesting pour, JYPSI has carved a lane worth watching.
